PROJECT SUMMARY
Eide Industries completed the design, fabrication and installation of a 45-foot diameter weather-protective, hydraulic-driven, retractable skylight system over an interior atrium. The atrium houses living California Redwood trees at the Hustler Casino in Gardena, California. Concept of the project was to create a retractable roof over an optional outdoor area in the center of the building. The roof system needed to be aesthetically appealing to patrons and to comply with all the California Smoking Laws.
The octagon, petal-like dome skylight is engineered to withstand 90 MPH wind-loads open or closed without the use of any permanent framing or supports within its diameter. The white powder-coat painted frame is fabricated with 4-inch square and 2-inch by 4-inch steel tubing, 6-inch by 6-inch heavy steel angle members, and 5-inch by 14-inch continuous piano hinges. Roof panel membranes are made of Cooley Brite with Coolthane translucent flexible vinyl fabric.
